New kid on the blog

I need help.  My site is boring.  I guess I have to figure out how to make it interesting.  There are so many new places to click, it’s kind of confusing!  I sound so old, too.  Plus, I won’t be on the computer much this week because Kevin has comps.  Um okay, so how do I become friends with you guys?

lol, it took me a while to figure some things out too! No worries!

I’m not sure about “friends” on wordpress, but I know how to put people’s links on your site! First, if you’ll go to Appearance on your Dashboard (so many new terms!) you will see Widgets, go there. Those are all the add-on things you can add to your site. Calendar, pictures, links…whatnot. Add Links to begin the process of putting people on your site (after that you can back to your Dash and go under Links and add people), Calendar for people to see when you last posted, and Add the Text widget for pictures!

Like I said, I’m just figuring things out too! :-)

Asking for help is the best way i think ( unless you are very ‘intuitive’ with new applications) and don’t be afraid to experiment with the various drop down menus under ‘my dashboard’.

You can add images or video to your post when you are logged in ( or if you understand wordpress html code and how it works) to make it appear more ‘attractive and fun. Get creative. You may find there are a few ‘rules’ that make it tricky sometimes but it is mostly not too hard and there is a help section.

Make sure you don’t just stick to your own blog and comment on other people’s blogs. Visit the sites of those who comment by clicking on their link (usually their name on the comment) and see who you wish to create a relationship with. Reach out by making a comment and introducing yourself and others will do likewise.

If you want friends you have to first be one :-)

Danielle – some ‘subscribe’ through a 3rd party reader like the google blog reader or through ‘www.technorati.com’ or a hundred others but wordpress is developing it’s own under: my dashboard – dashboard – blog surfer. it lets you add the hyperlink address of any blog or page on the web and keeps track of posts you have read.
